Our Rich Heritage & History
Here at Dover Castle lodge, we pride ourselves on our heritage and history. Some members have family connections to the Lodge, namely fathers, grandfathers and uncles who have enjoyed membership together, making Dover Castle Lodge particularly historic and special in the hearts of these members.
You may notice the words “Peace & Harmony” scribed in the core of our emblem. This is an allusion to The Lodge of Peace and Harmony No.199, a much older (18th century) Lodge from where some of its members sponsored the founding of Dover Castle Lodge in 1952, making us a “Daughter Lodge” of Lodge No.199.
Since 1952
Much like the proud castle that stands proud atop the white cliffs, whose grounds and tunnels hold stories of wartime Dover, The Dover Castle Lodge has been home to many Masons who grew up in, lived through and served in the Second World War.
The Lodge is not affiliated with Dover Castle, but it is named in honour of it and its historical and cultural significance to the United Kingdom.
Some members have been part of our Lodge for over fifty years! Such senior members are highly respected and valued for their Masonic experience and their guidance in ensuring the traditions of Dover Castle Lodge are upheld, cherished and continue to thrive.

Present Day
In addition to our deep rooted history, Dover Castle Lodge enjoys the company of younger members who also bring their own ideas and specialisms to the lodge. Our diverse and varied membership is what makes Dover Castle Lodge a truly unique and exciting lodge to visit and partake in social activities with.
As such, Dover Castle Lodge is confident of a long and happy future, provided that it continues to work to attract members. In part, new members are acquired through friends, colleagues and family members. But, perhaps surprisingly to many, new members are also acquired as a result of independent enquiries by members of the public. Could you be the next to join us in our wonderful fraternity?
